Affilliate Marketing For Dummies

Monday, May 28th, 2007

One of the most outstanding creations of the internet, is affiliate marketing. Only on the internet, and with affiliate marketing, can you get away with selling products which aren’t yours, not stressing yourself to deliver the said products, ignoring all the details concerning billing and cash matters, not having a care where after-sales service is concerned - and in spite of all of this, you still collect commissions worth thousands and yet remain free to roam the streets! Tell me: Where else can these happen?

Needless to mention; I know this sound great! Right? Well, let us see what the real picture is where affiliate marketing is concerned…

Affiliate marketing entails income sharing by the owner/creator of a product and you - the affiliate (or product promoter). This partnership creates an enabling environment for the merchant where he only pays for that advertisement/marketing, which produces a sale(s). On the other hand, the affiliate gains in percentage commissions on sales made through traffic that he sends the way of the merchant and on which he doesn’t have to bother with afterwards.

** How Will You Be Paid?
This is particularly dependent upon the type of affiliate program and how it is set up. This comes in two basic types: That which is operated independently by a merchant and that which the merchant employs the services of a third-party service provide to manage.

Either way, a software handles all the affiliate’s commission tracking. This is achieved by issuing each affiliate with a special unique URL, which he uses to send visitors/traffic to the merchant’s sales page. This software program then keeps perfect track of the sales which results through the affiliate link of each and every affiliate marketer and pays the commission accrued on a period-by-period basis through paypal, credit card, or checks.

** How Do You Select Products/Services?
The products or service which you choose and the figure in commission terms, will directly affect the kind of income you can expect to achieve. Therefore, extreme care is needed to ensure that you select a product or service that has the potential to bring you the kind of profit that will cover your expenses. Take particular care in choosing programs that you believe in, products/services you have used and that you like and those products you will not be ashamed of introducing your friends and family to.

Another thing worthy of note is choosing affiliate programs that offer training for their affiliates. Also, these come with already prepared and targeted graphics, text ads, solo ads, etc., etc which means that you won’t need to spend time creating your own.

Search for affiliate programs that have a commission payout percentage of not-less-than 50%. Also give a higher preference to affiliate programs having a residual income opportunity as this means that you get paid forever for a job done once!

Finally, affiliate marketing can be a highly lucrative online business. Having been around for a long time, we are just now getting to see the best coming out of the years of experience in internet affiliate marketing.

Take heed of the words above as you will need them to succeed as an affiliate marketer. Bye.

Flash = Redundant!

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Flash-based sites have been a craze since the past few years, and as Macromedia (now Adobe) compiles more and more great features into Flash, we can only predict there will be more and more flash sites around the Internet. However, Flash based sites have been disputed to be bloated and unnecessary. Where exactly do we draw the line? Here’s a simple breakdown.

The good:

Interactivity

Flash’s Actionscript opens up a vast field of possibilities. Programmers and designers have used Flash to create interactve features ranging from very lively feedback forms to attractive Flash-based games. This whole new level of interactivity will always leave visitors coming back for more.

A standardized site

With Flash, you do not have to worry about cross-browser compatibility. No more woes over how a certain css code displays differently in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. When you position your site elements in Flash, they will always appear as they are as long as the user has Flash Player installed.

Better expression through animation

In Flash, one can make use of its animating features to convey a message in a much more efficient and effective way. Flash is a lightweight option for animation because it is vector based (and hence smaller file sizes) as opposed to real “movie files” that are raster based and hence much larger in size.

The bad and the ugly:

The Flash player

People have to download the Flash player in advance before they can view Flash movies, so by using Flash your visitor range will decrease considerably because not everyone will be willing to download the Flash player just to view your site. You’ll also have to put in additional work in redirecting the user to the Flash download page if he or she doesn’t have the player installed.

Site optimization

If your content was presented in Flash, most search engines wouldn’t be able to index your content. Hence, you will not be able to rank well in search engines and there will be less traffic heading to your site.

Loading time

Users have to wait longer than usual to load Flash content compared to regular text and images, and some visitors might just lose their patience and click the Back button. The longer your Flash takes to load, the more you risk losing visitors.

The best way to go is to use Flash only when you absolutely need the interactivity and motion that comes with it. Otherwise, use a mixture of Flash and HTML or use pure text if your site is purely to present simple textual and graphical information.

A can of coke, and what it really means to me.

coke.jpg
Coke and me is synonym. And yes, you can say the same about me with gadgets, computers, all those geeky stuff and 99% failure rate in love. But coke to me is something more abstract than that. To me, its more about mutual respect. As the ‘technician’ and ‘internet bomoh’ among my social circle, I often get requests like: “dude, my pc got struck by another virus, can you get rid of it?” or “I bought this uber high-tech laptop and for some wierd reason I can only load vista installer and not XP can you help me getting XP in it?”. What would be my answer? Of course I help them. I’d love to! I want to know more about those pesky virus and I want to know myself what seems to be the problem with the laptop.

“Come to my home his weekend, bring along your [insert item to be fixed here] along with a can of coke. If you plan on staying over, buy some for yourself too.” Yep. That’s the same line, everytime. So one of my friends come forth with a question. “Dude, what’s up with the Coke?”. That my friend, is something only one of my ex girlfriend understand.

Our parents and teachers always remind us to say thanks whenever someone help us. The coke, is simply that, plus a litle bit more. Most people think that computers and the like are my third language or something I’m born good with. The answer, is no. Computer, gadgets, gizmos are only but a hobby to me. Same goes to drawing, or even playing guitar. So it’s not that easy to fix your computer from a virus or recover your deleted files. My source of knowledge alone (4 magazines a month, internet) costs me more than a hundred bucks a month. The best thing about me is I never charge people for my services(my mom call me an idiot for that). Only a can of coke, suffice, because I know for sure that when you say “thank you”, you don’t really mean it.

Don’t argue with me on that point, because from my experience, only a life-threatening situation guarantee me a real “thank you”.

Late last year, I turn my friend’s PSP from Original firmware to a custom firmware. Although I don’t have any idea how to do that at that time, I studied it for a few weeks and ready to crack his PSP. As predicted, I done it gracefully. So I gain another can of coke and a “thanks”. That dude saved his wallet 150 bucks. But I gained more, I gained much more than that. I gained a new knowledge and acknowledgement whenever my other friends have touble with their PSPs, Im the one to find.

March 2008, my psp bricked. Unable to revive, without a help of another (phat or old version) PSP to help. So I call him and ask him to allow me to borrow his……….. You can guess the rest of the sad story. I might have to spend more than 150 bucks if I send it to repair…. So the conclusion is…. Unless you saved someone’s live, there is no such thing as a real “thank you”. If I can’t get that, A can of coke is enough. >.-

p/s:- yes I’m one of those ‘hard to understand’ guy. That’s because of my artistic blood. I can’t help it.

Heck, its about time. CESB is now accepting artworks from anyone interested in it. Of course I’m interested in it as well. Whoever wants to have their artworks to be on Fantasi, may want to look at this page. Although planned for this year, it will not be as soon as this time around. So crank it up and brace yourself for the impact later this year. All artworks will be judge by non other than Jaafar Taib himself. Be scared or be glad.

EDIT: For those who don’t know what Fantasi is, see http://ms.wikipedia.org/wiki/FANTASI

Power Metal - Galneryus from Japan

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

up_11900.jpgI’m a huge fan of Heavy Metal and Power Metal. What makes Power Metal so attractive is the Keyboard addition to metal that gives more space for the lead guitar to show off. Plus the keys give a very classical feeling to it. Also instead of shouting your throat off like in Heavy Metal, Power Metal tends to shout like sopranos, very high pitch and understandable.

Galneryus was formed in early 2001 by guitarist Syu. They still rock hard until today. Most of their early songs are In english but since Everlasting, the wrote some japanese songs as well. Everlasting shows a marvellous guitar riff. Their latest song, Alsatia is a very good japanese song with stunning guitar play by syu. Well Alsatia is the very reason I get to know them. Other good Power Metal examples: Powerquest, Dionysus, Edguy and many more.

Current Lineup:

  • Syu - Lead/Rhythm Guitars/Backing Vocals
  • Yama-B - Vocals
  • Yu-To - Bass/Backing Vocals
  • Yuhki - Keyboards/Backing Vocals
  • Junichi Satoh - Drums

Heres a sample of their awesomeness:

chorus
my shiny teeth that twinkle just like the stars in space

my shiny teeth that sparkle adding beauty to my face

my shiny teeth that glisten just like a christmas tree,
you know they’ll walk for miles just to see me
smile (woo) my shiny teeth and me

Verse 2
Yes they’re all so perfect all white and pearly
brush, gargle, rinse, a couple breath mints my shiny teeth and me

Verse 3
My shiny teeth so awsome, just like your favortie song, my shiny teeth I floss ‘em so they grow to be real srong, my shiny teeth I love them and they all love me, why should I talk to you I’ve got 32 (woo) my shiny teeth and meĀ
