Sarahintampa and twitter

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

While surfing around(in the absense of Gmail). I went through this nice blog [http://hyperculture.typepad.com/]. By sarah. I’ve never thought a girl could write a tech blog, so im very wrong then. From her blog i also found out about Twitter.

twitter.png is “A global community of friends and strangers answering one simple question: What are you doing? Answer on your phone, IM, or right here on the web!”

At first i think its a waste of time and quite hazardous. People can know where you are and what you are doing. In real time!! on second thought, its great to know what my friends are doing right now.

Heres a quote by MG Siegler:

While the mundane can be interesting/humorous and may be important to true friends, the breaking news is where the power of Twitter lies. A couple of weeks ago many were privy to learn about the earthquake in the Bay Area and the Scooter Libby guilty verdict from various people on Twitter before many media outlets had picked up on the stories. Earlier this week I learned of both the OS X 10.4.9 update and the release of Flickr Collections via Twitter…well before those stories broke on my RSS reader.

Why Wordpress.com is better than blogger.com

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Many Malaysian choose blogger.com to host their blog(s) and I would seriously promote you guys to try wordpress.com . Its free, without those fancy blogger.com stuff. Buts its still flashy, with widgets and the right plugins. http://wordpress.com/features/

And most important part of it, its spam free.

Building A Website Without HTML

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

So you want to build a website but you know nothing of HTML?

Well, that is not really a problem, but first of all; have you actually considered learning some HTML? It really isn’t very difficult and a little knowledge now could save you a big headache later on, so it might be a good idea to spend a couple of hours learning the basics of HTML even if you don’t intend to become completely fluent in the language.

Probably the easiest way to learn anything, including HTML, is by following step-by-step examples and I would heartily recommend the free online tutorials at http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp or for alternatives you could always use your favourite search engine to find the thousands of others.

If you prefer to learn from the pages of a book then a couple of recommendations you might like to check out are: “Learn HTML in a weekend” by S. Callihan, or “HTML 4 for dummies” by Ed Tittel and Mary Burmeister. There are of course many many more.

On the other hand, if you are content to stay HTML illiterate and simply want to build a web page using a WYSIWYG editor then there are some excellent Web building applications available including the obvious choices such as Dreamweaver and Frontpage. However, it can be quite expensive to invest in high end software such as this, so if you are on a budget or you just want to dip a toe in the water, then check out NVU (pronounced N-VIEW) - it is open source software and therefore completely free to download and use. You can find it at http://www.nvu.com/index.php

Finally, for the easiest way of creating a web page with no knowledge of HTML and without any further software you may find Google’s Page Creator useful. It’s not a professional solution, but it may just suit your needs perfectly. You can find it at http://pages.google.com

Of courseFeature Articles, once you have built your Website you then need to learn how to get traffic to it. But that’s a whole different story.

Good luck!

RSS Basics

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

RSS is technology - a simple software program - that allows you to access web and blog content automatically. The acronym’s most popular translation is “Really Simple Syndication. Once your browser or computer has an RSS reader on board, you can subscribe to any number of RSS “feeds.” A feed is simply a way in which a reader may subscribe to website content - most commonly blogs or news sites. A news site, for example, may list their latest headlines or entire articles in their feed every time a new article is published. A blog would publish this feed as a series of recent posts.

Is Mac that great?

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I have a floor of office full of macs, with old Os for editors and newer ones for graphics. We share 2 pinters, 1 color printer (new one) and another old B&W printer. The problem:

  • Old macs cant use the new printer.
  • New macs can use the older printer(by running classic os)
  • But adobe CS2 doesnt run on classic. and our old Quarkxpress only run on classic.
  • conclusion:
    • new soft-new hardware, ok
    • old soft- new hardware, NO
    • new soft - old hardware, NO

Macs for graphic? NO! Adobe photoshop first appear in the world as a Mac’s software. So few years back its understandable that macs is for design. Now adobe is on both system so whats the different?

p/s: Mac is fun??? Think GAMES!!!
